Canacintra and Fonacot sign pact to expand credit access for Mexican workers
Canacintra, the Mexican business federation, confirmed that its member companies continue to offer internal loans to employees, though the amounts are limited by salary, tenure and legal caps. President Jorge Mtanous warned that informal lenders are proliferating and urged workers to use formal financing channels.
In a related development, Canacintra Monclova and the Instituto Fonacot signed a cooperation agreement to bring Fonacot’s preferential‑rate loans directly to affiliated firms. The pact will install on‑site service modules, provide financial‑education sessions and streamline credit applications for formal employees, aiming to reduce reliance on costly informal credit.
Both initiatives seek to protect workers’ finances while preventing companies from having to fund loans themselves, and to promote safer, lower‑cost borrowing options across Mexico.
