Canada allocates $3 million for national search and rescue services

The Canadian federal government has announced a $3 million investment to support search and rescue services across the country over the next three years. The funding will be distributed through the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada (SARVAC) to approximately 300 teams and roughly 10,000 volunteers.

The investment is intended to fund various essential services, including the development and maintenance of national ground search and rescue standards, prevention initiatives, training, and the coordination of a national volunteer insurance program.

In the Northwest Territories, officials noted the critical role of these services in remote areas. The RCMP highlighted that search and rescue involves a broad network of Indigenous partners, aviation partners, and emergency management organizations working together to respond to incidents.
