Canada allocates millions to manufacturers facing U.S. tariffs

The Canadian federal government is deploying significant funding to support manufacturers facing economic pressure from recent United States tariffs. Through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), administered by PrairiesCan, the government is targeting projects to modernize operations, increase productivity, and strengthen domestic supply chains.

In Saskatoon, $11.6 million is being allocated to eight organizations to support 10 projects. This initiative aims to help businesses diversify markets and reduce vulnerability to future trade disruptions following Washington's imposition of additional tariffs on Canadian goods.

In Winnipeg, nearly $16 million is earmarked for 15 manufacturing projects led by 11 organizations. Notable recipients include Fort Garry Fire Trucks, which will use over $2 million to bring more production in-house and expand capacity, and Smartrend Manufacturing Group, which will receive over $3 million to automate electronics production and expand into new markets.
