Canada and Côte d’Ivoire expand air transport agreement

Canada and Côte d’Ivoire have expanded their bilateral air transport agreement to increase passenger and cargo capacity. The new terms, effective immediately, allow airlines from both nations to operate up to 14 weekly passenger-combination flights and up to 10 weekly all-cargo flights.

The agreement grants airlines access to all points within each respective country. Additionally, cargo carriers are granted fifth-freedom rights, enabling them to operate flights between two foreign countries if the flight originates or terminates in the airline’s home country, specifically covering destinations in Africa, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

This expansion follows significant growth in bilateral merchandise trade, which reached $1.2 billion in 2025. While the agreement increases available capacity, Transport Canada noted that carriers retain the discretion to decide when and if to implement new routes.
