Canada and Ireland expand partnership on AI, biotech and food security

Canada and Ireland announced a joint initiative to cooperate on artificial intelligence, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and food security. Prime Minister Mark Carney said the visit was about “strengthening a relationship that is already flourishing.”

The two governments will broaden cooperation in life sciences, including student skills development and the creation of a regenerative‑medicine hub in Ireland. The partnership is timed with Ireland’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union and a push for full ratification of the Canada‑EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) by 2026, which is expected to occur shortly after the visit.
