Canada and Tunisia expand air transport agreement

Canada and Tunisia have expanded their air transport agreement to increase connectivity and facilitate trade. The updated agreement increases the number of authorized weekly passenger-combination flights from four to seven for each country.

A major change in the agreement is the expansion of accessible destinations; airlines now have access to all points within each country, whereas the previous agreement limited access to only one point in each nation. Additionally, the new framework liberalizes air cargo by allowing unlimited weekly all-cargo flights, a significant shift from the previous lack of dedicated cargo rights.

Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon noted that the expansion aims to deepen the economic partnership and create conditions for greater mobility and cultural exchange. The move follows a period of growth in bilateral ties, with passenger traffic between the two nations increasing by more than 55% since the last agreement expansion in 2019. Bilateral merchandise trade reached $439 million in 2025.
