Canada and Ukraine sign 100-year strategic partnership

During a meeting in Calgary, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a declaration establishing a 100-year strategic partnership. This long-term agreement covers defense, security, energy, critical minerals, and trade.

Key military commitments include a C$350 million package to provide air defense interceptors to Ukraine via a US-led mechanism. Additionally, Canada announced plans to build industrial capacity to produce millions of drones over the next two years, with one third of all production dedicated to supporting Ukraine's defense.

To bolster Ukraine's energy security ahead of winter, Canada will provide nearly C$435 million in loan guarantees through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The total value of the new agreements between the two nations is estimated to exceed USD$2 billion.
