Canada announces funding for National Acadian Day celebrations
Canada is marking National Acadian Day by celebrating the heritage and resilience of one of North America’s oldest Francophone communities. The federal government has announced a $5 million investment over five years, starting in 2026-2027, to support the Celebrations and Commemorations Program through Canadian Heritage.
Additional support includes a $750,000 joint investment in the Place du Drapeau acadien. To bolster the community, the government is also raising Francophone immigration targets outside of Québec to assist Acadian employers in finding French-speaking talent.
Local celebrations included a large-scale event in Charlo featuring musical performances by groups such as Bluecharms and Beauxmont, alongside artist Zachary Richard. It was also announced that Campbellton will host a major Acadian Day televised spectacle broadcast by Radio-Canada, serving as a precursor to upcoming regional congresses.
