Canada Auditor General releases nine performance reports

Auditor General Karen Hogan has tabled nine reports in the House of Commons detailing various government agency performance issues. Key findings include significant delays at the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre (Fintrac), where IT issues caused financial intelligence to reach law enforcement with an average delay of four months, often arriving too late for investigations.

The audit revealed that Environment and Climate Change Canada abandoned efforts to end thermal coal exports in November 2024 following industry lobbying, without public notification or official direction from Ottawa, despite a 2021 pledge to end such exports by 2030.

Additionally, the Public Health Agency of Canada lost over $20 million in pharmaceutical products due to a freezer door being left ajar. Other reports evaluated the Canadian Dental Care Plan, the national emergency stockpile, pesticide risk management, the Canadian Armed Forces’ ammunition management, and customs duty collections.
