Canada Bay and Glen Cove announce new waste and litter initiatives

The City of Canada Bay is updating its Bulk Household Waste Services. Starting January 1, 2025, the council will increase scheduled clean-up collections from two to four per year. Residents in large apartment blocks (typically over 21 units) will have four collections automatically scheduled. Residents in freestanding homes or smaller apartment blocks can use a new booking portal to schedule up to four collections annually.

In Glen Cove, the Beautification Litter Prevention Program has been awarded a $15,000 grant to combat cigarette litter and protect Long Island Sound. The initiative includes installing over 20 cigarette receptacles across the city and providing portable pouches and ashtrays to residents. The program is partnering with TerraCycle to recycle collected cigarette butts into raw materials for new products.
