Canada begins distributing supplemental funding to national sport groups

The Canadian federal government has begun distributing supplemental funding to national amateur sports organizations. Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden announced that Alpine Canada will be the first recipient, receiving an additional $2.77 million to bring its annual total to $8 million.

This initiative follows a spring economic update that pledged to address a funding crisis identified by the Future of Sport in Canada Commission. The government has made $112 million available this year for supplemental applications. Additionally, a broader investment of $755 million over five years has been allocated to support athletes, boost participation, and host international sporting events.

To facilitate discussions on the future of the sport system, the government will host the ‘playground to podium’ summit in Ottawa this November. The two-day conference aims to bring together stakeholders from across the amateur sport landscape to determine how to best utilize the new federal investments.
