Canada begins seasonal COVID-19 and flu vaccination rollouts

Canadian provinces and territories have commenced seasonal vaccination programs for COVID-19 and influenza. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends prioritizing high-risk groups, including adults aged 65 and older, healthcare workers, and residents of long-term care facilities.

In Ontario, the rollout began on September 28, 2026, focusing on hospitalized patients, healthcare staff, and seniors. The general public can access free COVID-19 and influenza vaccines starting October 26, 2026, through pharmacies, public health units, and primary care providers. Ontario has also implemented respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunization programs for specific demographics, including infants, pregnant individuals, and adults aged 75 and older, or those aged 60 to 74 in high-risk settings.

Quebec has released eligibility criteria for its free vaccination programs, though specific availability dates have not been finalized. NACI advises individuals to wait approximately six months after a COVID-19 vaccination before receiving a new dose.
