Canada co‑host draws 1‑1 with Ireland in World Cup warm‑up as Davies sidelined
Canada, one of the co‑hosts for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, played a friendly against Ireland in Montreal. The match ended 1‑1 after a Jake O’Brien own‑goal gave the hosts an early lead, which was later equalised by Chiedozie Ogbene for the visitors. Canada’s captain Alphonso Davies remained unavailable, nursing a thigh injury sustained in the Champions League semi‑final. Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau made several key saves, including denying a late chance for Ireland. Canada will open its World Cup group with Bosnia‑Herzegovina, Switzerland and Qatar on 12 June in Toronto.
