Canada divided over summer lawn watering practices

A national poll conducted by Narrative Research and the Logit Group reveals a divided Canadian public regarding lawn watering during the summer. Nationally, 45% of citizens believe watering is reasonable under certain circumstances, while 42% support limitations or total bans to preserve water resources. Only 8% believe watering should be permitted without any constraints.

In New Brunswick, residents lean toward a pragmatic approach. Approximately 30% believe watering is acceptable as long as no official municipal restrictions are in place, and nearly 20% view it as reasonable only during droughts or heatwaves. Conversely, 23% prioritize water preservation through restrictions, and 18% advocate for a total ban on summer lawn watering. Only 2% of New Brunswickers believe watering should be allowed at all times without restriction.

Regional differences are notable across the country. Quebec shows the strictest stance, with 26% opposing all summer watering. In contrast, Ontario (34%) and the Atlantic provinces (35%) express higher tolerance for watering provided it is not prohibited by local regulations.
