Canada ETF market exceeds 2,000 funds amid record growth

The number of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) listed on Canadian exchanges has surpassed 2,000, representing a growth of approximately 9% compared to the end of 2025. The year 2025 saw a record 374 new fund launches.

This rapid expansion presents new challenges for financial advisors, who must now navigate a complex landscape of product innovations, trend-driven products, and strategic copies. Under the Know-your-Product (KYP) rules established by the 2021 Client-Focused Reforms, advisors are required to perform rigorous systematic checks on costs, risks, structures, liquidity, and bid-ask spreads for the products they recommend to clients.
