Canada experiences ransomware rates double the global average

Canadian organizations are facing a significant surge in cyberattacks, with ransomware rates hitting 18.2% over the last six months. This figure is more than double the global average of 9.0%. According to Check Point Research, Canadian organizations averaged 1,664 weekly attacks during this period, a volume that peaked at 2,196 in late August.

Consumer-facing sectors, particularly Consumer Goods & Services, have experienced the highest attack volumes. The data indicates that web-based delivery is the primary vector, accounting for nearly 60% of malicious files, while email accounts for approximately 40%. PDFs have emerged as the most common malicious file type across both delivery channels.
