Canada foreign influence commissioner assesses new registration compliance
Canada’s Foreign Influence Transparency Commissioner, Anton Boegman, informed a House of Commons committee that it is currently too early to determine the level of compliance regarding new reporting obligations.
Boegman stated that his office has focused on contacting individuals and organizations that may be required to register their activities. Under the law, parties must provide information to the commissioner when they enter arrangements with a foreign principal intended to influence Canadian political or governmental processes.
Entities are required to register within 14 days of entering such an arrangement. For arrangements that existed prior to August 4, 2026, and continued past that date, the deadline for filing was last Saturday.
