Canada pivots toward Europe and UK amid U.S. trade tensions
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is actively diversifying Canada’s international alliances in response to escalating trade tensions with the United States. Following the collapse of trade negotiations and the imposition of 50% U.S. tariffs on approximately $20 billion of Canadian goods, Carney has pivoted toward strengthening ties with Europe and the United Kingdom.

To mitigate the domestic impact of the U.S. trade war, the Canadian government has announced a new $7.5 billion aid package for affected industries, including the automotive, forestry, steel, and aluminum sectors, building upon previous support measures.
