Canada invests $15 million in Xona Space Systems Montreal hub
The Canadian government has announced a $15 million investment through the Strategic Response Fund to support Xona Space Systems Canada in establishing a mission operations and space systems development and manufacturing centre in Montréal. This initiative is part of a larger $64.8 million project aimed at building domestic advanced manufacturing and space capabilities.
The new facility will serve as a hub for satellite systems development and mission control, specifically focusing on the deployment and commercialization of Pulsar, a low Earth orbit–based positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) system. The project is intended to create approximately 126 highly skilled jobs and provide specialized testing infrastructure and manufacturing capacity.
Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly stated that the investment aims to strengthen Canada’s economic and national security by building a resilient defence industrial base. The government emphasized that establishing sovereign command-and-control capabilities is crucial for effective and secure operations, particularly in the Arctic.
