Canada launches Quantum Defence Innovation Secure Hub in Calgary
The Honourable David J. McGuinty, Minister of National Defence, announced the creation of a Quantum Defence Innovation Secure Hub (Quantum DISH) in Calgary, Alberta. The hub will receive $20.3 million in federal funding over two years and is managed by a University of Calgary‑led consortium of 13 organisations, including Lockheed Martin Canada, General Dynamics Mission Systems‑Canada, CAE, Dell Canada and Calian.
The Quantum DISH will provide a secure environment for government, industry, academia and innovators to collaborate on quantum sensing, communications, navigation, computing and decision‑support technologies. It is intended to accelerate the transition of these technologies into mission‑ready capabilities for the Canadian Armed Forces, strengthen Canada’s technological advantage and reduce vulnerabilities such as GPS spoofing. The hub operates under the Bureau of Research, Engineering and Advanced Leadership in Innovation and Science (BOREALIS) and joins the existing Maritime and Uncrewed Systems DISHs, expanding Canada’s defence innovation ecosystem.
