Canada invests $26M in GTA businesses amid U.S. tariff tensions

The Canadian federal government has announced a nearly $26 million investment to support 31 businesses across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative. Launched in March 2025, the program aims to mitigate the impact of tariff tensions between Canada and the United States.

Evan Solomon, Canada’s minister of artificial intelligence and digital innovation and minister responsible for FedDev Ontario, announced the funding at Daybar Industries Ltd. in Brampton. Daybar Industries, a manufacturer of steel doors and frames, will receive $700,000 as part of a larger $12-million project supported by FedDev Ontario. The project is intended to modernize production lines, improve supply chain efficiency, and expand market reach for Canadian-made steel products.
