Canada invests $76 million in new national basketball centre in Toronto
The Canadian federal government is investing $76 million to establish a new national basketball centre at Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus in Toronto. The facility is intended to serve as the permanent home for Canada Basketball.
The planned centre will feature six gymnasiums designed for provincial, national, and international competition. Additional amenities will include a high-performance training centre, a domed playing field, and various spaces dedicated to community, academic, and athletic use.
Funding for the project is being provided through the federal government’s Build Communities Strong Fund, an initiative aimed at building and renewing public infrastructure. Michael Bartlett, president and CEO of Canada Basketball, stated that a permanent home could assist Canada in achieving global excellence in the sport.
