Canada invests $8.7 million in life sciences workforce training

The Government of Canada is providing up to $8.7 million to the Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences (CASTL) through the Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program. The funding supports the ‘Supporting Workforce Capacity in Canada’s Biomanufacturing Sector’ project, which aims to strengthen the nation's ability to produce vaccines, drugs, and health products.

The initiative is expected to provide training for approximately 1,800 Canadians, including youth, newcomers, and displaced or underemployed workers, to address skill shortages and connect them with career pathways in the life sciences sector. This investment follows a June announcement expanding Canada’s partnership with Ireland in science and technology.

As part of this cooperation, CASTL has signed a memorandum of understanding with Ireland’s National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training to enhance workforce development within the biopharmaceutical and life sciences industries.
