Canada invests over $13 million in new affordable housing projects in Alberta and Ontario

The federal government announced a $7.03 million investment in Lethbridge, Alberta, to expand senior housing. $2.23 million will convert 50 affordable rental units for seniors over 55 at The Edwards, while $4.8 million will finance repairs and upgrades for 480 units in the Green Acres Foundation, including modernized elevators, energy‑efficient lighting, and new HVAC systems. The funding comes from the Affordable Housing Fund, which has pledged more than $15 billion nationwide.

In Wallaceburg, Ontario, a combined $6.7 million from federal and provincial sources will support a mixed‑income development on Westcourt Boulevard. The project will create 50 affordable units and 22 market‑rate units as part of a 72‑unit community, featuring intergenerational housing, 20 % accessibility, and energy‑efficiency measures. Funding is provided through the Ontario Priorities Housing Initiative and the Canada‑Ontario Community Housing Initiative, reflecting a collaboration between municipal, provincial and federal governments to address local housing needs.
