Canada issues travel advisories for Japan, Trinidad and Tobago and Belize

The Canadian government updated its travel advisory for Japan, warning that Typhoon Jangmi is expected to cross Okinawa and the Amami Islands from June 1, 2026. The storm could bring heavy rain, flooding, landslides and severe disruptions to transportation, power, water, food supplies, telecommunications and medical services. Travelers are urged to monitor local weather reports, follow authorities’ instructions and consider evacuation orders.

Canada also issued new advisories for Trinidad and Tobago and Belize, citing high levels of violent crime and ongoing states of emergency. In Trinidad and Tobago, the advisory highlights armed robberies, carjackings, assaults, kidnappings, murders and gang‑related activity, especially in specific neighborhoods of Port of Spain and other urban areas, and warns of possible terrorist‑linked threats. For Belize, the warning notes one of the world’s highest per‑capita murder rates, gang and drug‑related violence in Belize City, Belmopan and popular tourist spots such as Caye Caulker and San Pedro, and the recent declaration of a state of emergency in parts of the Belize District. Canadians are advised to avoid non‑essential travel, carry identification, stay in secure accommodations and remain vigilant, especially when using online dating apps or moving alone at night.
