Canada jurisdictions to adopt permanent daylight time in 2026
Several Canadian jurisdictions are transitioning to permanent daylight time, meaning clocks will not fall back on November 1, 2026. British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and the Northwest Territories will skip the standard time change, while provinces such as Ontario, Quebec, and the Atlantic provinces will proceed with setting clocks back one hour.
In British Columbia, the province has moved to permanent Pacific Time (UTC-7), though some southeastern communities remain aligned with Alberta at UTC-6. Alberta has also adopted year-round time following the Official Time Act.
To support these changes, Microsoft has announced that Windows 11, Windows Server, and other supported platforms will receive an update as part of the October 13, 2026, security update. This update will introduce a new time zone for Manitoba (UTC-05:00) to ensure system accuracy following the provincial government's announcement.
