Canada marks national day in Argentina and issues travel advisory for dual citizens ahead of 2026 World Cup

The Canadian embassy in Buenos Aires held a Canada‑Day reception on 24 June, with Ambassador Stewart Wheeler delivering a speech in Spanish that highlighted the close bilateral relationship with Argentina and the opportunities for cooperation in trade, mining, energy, science and defence. Wheeler linked the celebration to the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, co‑hosted by Canada, the United States and Mexico, noting the event’s potential to promote teamwork and inclusion.

The Canadian embassy in Mexico issued a travel advisory for Canadians who also hold Mexican citizenship and plan to attend World Cup matches in Mexico. It warned that travelers must use a valid Canadian passport to fly back to Canada and cannot rely on a Special Authorization or an eTA. Dual nationals must present both passports when entering or leaving Mexico, and the advisory reminded them that tourist stays are limited to a maximum of 180 days, subject to immigration officials’ discretion. Consular services were offered for assistance and for reporting any incidents.
