Canada men's soccer team targets trophies in new World Cup cycle
The Canadian men's national soccer team is entering a new World Cup cycle with the goal of winning a trophy and ending a 26-year championship drought. Following a successful run to the Round of 16 in recent competition and a semi-final appearance in the 2024 Copa América, head coach Jesse Marsch stated that the squad believes they can compete for titles.
Canada's upcoming schedule includes matches against Peru in Montreal on October 3 and the United States in St. Paul, Minnesota, on October 6. The team is also preparing for the Nations League quarterfinals in November. The program has shown significant growth since its 1986 World Cup appearance, highlighted by Alphonso Davies scoring the nation's first-ever World Cup goal and recent competitive performances against regional powers like Mexico and the United States.
