Canada monitors Netanyahu's potential transit through its airspace

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is investigating whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will transit through Canadian airspace this Thursday. Netanyahu is currently subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court in 2024 regarding alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu is scheduled to visit New York on Thursday. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that Netanyahu would be arrested if he enters the country. While foreign dignitaries are required to request permission from Ottawa three working days before flying through Canadian airspace, legal experts have previously criticized Canada for allowing Netanyahu’s aircraft to enter its airspace despite the standing warrant.
