Canada eTA eligibility for Brazilian citizens with US visas

Brazilian citizens holding a valid non-immigrant US visa may be eligible to apply for a Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) instead of a traditional visitor visa, provided they enter Canada by air.

To qualify for the eTA, travelers must possess a valid Brazilian passport and a US visa that is valid at the time of the eTA application. While the US visa must be valid when applying, it does not necessarily need to remain valid on the actual date of travel to Canada. The eTA costs CAD 7 and most applications are processed within minutes.

However, this facilitation is strictly limited to air travel. Travelers entering Canada from the United States via land—such as by car, bus, or train—or by sea, must still obtain a traditional Temporary Resident Visa. Additionally, an eTA does not guarantee entry, as final admission decisions remain at the discretion of border agents.
