Canada orders deportation of alleged Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Sahibjot Singh

The Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) in Canada issued a removal order for 21‑year‑old Indian national Sahibjot Singh, concluding there were reasonable grounds to believe he participated in the criminal activities of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Singh, who lived in Alberta, did not contest the order; the board cited digital evidence from his cellphone showing possession of unauthorized weapons and involvement in an organised extortion network that operated in Alberta, Ontario and British Columbia. IRB member Trent Cook described the gang as a “sophisticated hierarchical network” with ties to incidents such as drive‑by shootings, arson and drug trafficking, and noted phone intercepts from France, Portugal and Amsterdam. The decision aligns with a broader Canadian crackdown on organised crime, which has seen multiple arrests and charges in recent months, and follows parallel U.S. Department of Justice indictments against members of the Bishnoi gang under Operation Hard Ball. The deportation underscores Canada’s use of immigration tools to combat transnational criminal organisations.
