Canada pitches 167 projects to attract $1 trillion in investment
The Canadian government is preparing to present a 167-project prospectus to international investors at the upcoming Canada Investment Summit in Toronto on September 14 and 15. Hosted by Prime Minister Mark Carney in partnership with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board, the summit aims to secure $1 trillion in new investment over the next five years.
The prospectus outlines diverse opportunities across eight sectors, with mining and metals representing the largest category. Other key areas include clean energy, transportation, digital technology, and advanced manufacturing. Notable high-value projects listed include a $57 billion expansion of the Port of Churchill in Manitoba, a $44 billion offshore wind project in Nova Scotia, and a $35 billion West Coast oil pipeline.
Digital infrastructure is also a significant focus, with various data center projects seeking financing. The initiative serves as a strategic effort to diversify Canada's trade and economic ties amid geopolitical uncertainty and escalating trade tensions with the United States.
