Canada plant-based holiday initiatives promote animal welfare
Advocates are calling for the promotion of plant-based alternatives in Canada to improve animal welfare during holiday celebrations. A petition directed to Heath MacDonald, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, urges the government to support cruelty-free, plant-based diets and ensure humane options are accessible to all Canadians.
In conjunction with the ‘ThanksVegan’ holiday on October 12, PETA is encouraging Canadians to host animal-friendly feasts using vegan recipes for traditional dishes like meatloaf, gravy, and pumpkin pie. Major Canadian grocery retailers, including Loblaws, Sobeys, and various regional chains, are noted for stocking vegan products such as meatless roasts and non-dairy milks to facilitate these celebrations.
