Canada pledges $25 million in additional aid to Haiti

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Canadian Minister Anita Anand and Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs Raina Forbin held bilateral discussions regarding the security and humanitarian crisis in Haiti.

Canada announced an additional contribution of approximately $25 million to support Haiti. This funding is intended to bolster humanitarian aid, security, governance, and community resilience. Specific objectives include combating corruption and organized crime, preventing gang recruitment of youth, addressing gender-based violence, and supporting local peacebuilding initiatives.

The ministers also discussed the deployment of the Gang Suppression Force (FRG) and the necessary conditions for organizing upcoming elections. Canada has mobilized over $570 million for initiatives related to security, stability, and democratic governance in Haiti between 2022 and 2026.
