Canada posts dominant wins in softball and soccer World Cups

Canada's national teams recorded commanding victories in two World Cup events. In the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Group Prague, the Canadian squad beat Czechia 14‑1, finishing the opening round with a 4‑1 record and securing a spot in the Group Prague Play‑Offs. Key performances included Caitlyn Wong’s three hits, three RBI and a solo homer, as well as strong contributions from Avery Tucker and Natalie Wideman, each with three hits and multiple RBI.

In men's soccer, Canada defeated Qatar 6‑0 in a Group B match at B.C. Place in Vancouver during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Goals came from Cyle Larin, Jonathan David (three times), Nathan Saliba, Jacob Shaffelburg and a late strike by David, propelling Canada toward a knockout‑stage berth. The game also featured a serious leg injury to midfielder Ismael Koné and a red card for Qatar defender Assim Madibo.
