Canada provides 20 million CAD to Mercer International for mill modernization

The Canadian government has committed 20 million CAD to support Mercer International in modernizing its Peace River pulp mill in Alberta. This funding is part of the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), aimed at assisting businesses affected by recent trade tensions, specifically following the imposition of tariffs by the United States on Canadian goods.

The financial package consists of a 1 million CAD non-repayable grant and a 19 million CAD repayable contribution, with repayments scheduled to begin in 2031. The investment is intended to enhance the mill's productivity and competitiveness while supporting technological advancements in bio-energy production and carbon capture and storage (CCS) capabilities.
