Canada reaches agreement to reduce interprovincial trade barriers
Canada’s provinces and territories have reached an agreement to reduce internal trade barriers, a move intended to bolster the domestic economy amid global trade uncertainty and tariff disputes with the United States.
A key component of the agreement, signed on August 27, requires all jurisdictions to recognize the certifications of skilled tradespeople from other provinces or territories within 30 days of application. Additionally, ministers have committed to pursuing a mutual recognition agreement to facilitate the free trade of services.
Federal, provincial, and territorial leaders aim to finalize these objectives by the end of the year. They also plan to accelerate the development of model mutual-recognition legislation to help establish a more unified Canadian market, making it easier for businesses and workers to operate across jurisdictional boundaries.
