Canada recalls organic cheeses from Farm Boy, L'Ancêtre and Life Smart

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall for several organic cheese products due to potential listeria contamination. The recall affects brands including Farm Boy, L'Ancêtre, and Life Smart.

Specific products identified include Farm Boy organic Swiss, medium cheddar, old cheddar, extra sharp, and 3-year-old cheddar with a best before date of July 30, 2027. Life Smart organic part-skim mozzarella with a best before date of March 30, 2027, is also included. Additionally, various shredded organic cheeses from L'Ancêtre with best before dates in December 2026, January 2027, and July 2027 are part of the recall.

The CFIA stated that the recall was prompted by test results, though no illnesses have been reported so far. The agency is continuing an investigation that may lead to further recalls.

Health officials warn that listeria can cause serious illness, including fever, nausea, and muscle aches. Pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk. In pregnant women, infection can lead to complications such as premature delivery or stillbirth. Consumers are advised to throw out or return the affected products.
