Canada sanctions Streit Group over Russian military vehicle supplies
Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has announced sanctions against Streit Group, an armoured vehicle company owned by Russian-Canadian businessman Guerman Goutorov. The decision follows allegations that the company has supplied vehicles to the Russian National Guard, which is actively participating in the war against Ukraine.
Minister Anand stated that the sanctions aim to reduce Russia’s military capabilities by disrupting the company’s ability to provide military technology and equipment. The move follows similar measures recently implemented by the European Union against both the company and Goutorov.
Streit Group, which was founded in Ontario, has a history of operating in various war zones and has previously faced fines from the United States and accusations of sanctions violations from the United Nations. While the Ukrainian Canadian Congress welcomed the sanctions, the group noted that the federal government has not yet taken direct action against Goutorov himself, calling for more rigorous enforcement of export laws and a full trade embargo on Russia.
