Canada seeks to finalize trade agreement with India by year-end
Canada is optimistic about finalizing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with India by the end of the year. Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu expressed this optimism during a visit to Mumbai, noting that negotiations could conclude in the coming months.
Negotiations are expected to advance with Indian trade officials visiting Canada next month, potentially followed by a meeting between leaders on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in December. Key areas of focus include the energy sector, specifically liquefied natural gas (LNG) and nuclear energy cooperation.
Additionally, major Indian business groups, including Reliance Industries, Mahindra and Mahindra, and the JSW Group, are reportedly exploring investments in Canadian critical mineral projects to secure supply chains against increasing global volatility.
