Four British Columbia‑raised defenders named to Canada’s 2026 World Cup squad
Four players who grew up in British Columbia – defender Niko Sigur (Burnaby), Alistair Johnston (Vancouver), Joel Waterman (Aldergrove/Langley) and Alphonso Davies (Burnaby/Edmonton) – have been included in Canada’s 26‑man roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. National‑team head coach Jesse Marsch announced the selections on May 29, ahead of Canada’s opening match on June 12 in Toronto. “It is an honour to name our squad for a World Cup on home soil,” Marsch said, noting the players reflect the country’s diverse communities. The tournament will run for five weeks across Canada, the United States and Mexico, with Canada competing in Group B.
The roster also lists three goalkeepers – Maxime Crépeau, Owen Goodman and Dayne St Clair – and a full complement of defenders, midfielders and forwards from clubs around the world.
