Canada selects German‑Norwegian TKMS for new submarine fleet

Canada announced that the German‑Norwegian consortium TKMS will supply up to 12 submarines for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Project, with the first vessel expected in the mid‑2030s. The contract follows Prime Minister Mark Carney’s July announcement and underscores Canada’s commitment to NATO and Atlantic defence while expanding its naval capabilities.

Canadian clean‑energy firm GH Power is exploring a partnership with TKMS to introduce its modular reactor technology into the submarine programme’s industrial base. The reactor can produce high‑purity alumina, clean hydrogen and thermal energy for shipbuilding and defence‑related manufacturing. GH Power CEO David White said the collaboration could accelerate commercialisation of clean‑hydrogen and advanced‑materials platforms within Canada’s defence supply chain.
