Canada selects ‘Nina Rosa’ for Oscar consideration

The film ‘Nina Rosa’ has been selected by Telefilm Canada to represent the country in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards in 2027. Directed and written by Geneviève Dulude-de Sel, the film is a co-production between Canada, Bulgaria, Belgium, and Italy.

Starring Bulgarian actor Galin Stoev, the drama follows an art expert from Quebec who returns to Bulgaria 30 years after fleeing the country to authenticate the work of an eight-year-old Bulgarian artist. The film previously won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Director Geneviève Dulude-de Sel expressed gratitude to the film’s international production teams, noting that the story explores themes of migration, legacy, and identity.
