Canada Soccer chief Kevin Blue urges lasting support after World Cup run

Canada’s men’s national soccer team was eliminated 3‑0 by Morocco in the round of 16, ending a historic World Cup campaign that delivered the country’s first point, first win and first knockout‑round victory in the tournament. CEO Kevin Blue said the enthusiasm generated by the event must be turned into long‑term growth, describing the 2026 World Cup as a “catalyst, not a finish line.” He outlined plans for a national training centre, stronger youth pathways and increased fan engagement, including domestic friendlies for both men’s and women’s teams.

Blue noted that Canada earned US$18.5 million in prize money, with allocations for player compensation, the federation’s budget and a $2 million share for a prize pool that will be split with the women’s program if it qualifies for the 2027 World Cup. He also highlighted the injury challenges faced by the squad, such as captain Alphonso Davies’ hamstring issue and midfielder Ismaël Koné’s broken leg.
