Canada to debut at Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria

CBC/Radio‑Canada has become a full member of the European Broadcasting Union, giving Canada the right to enter the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time. The country will make its debut at the 71st edition in 2027, which will be staged in Bulgaria after the host nation won the 2026 competition. Canada will start in one of the semifinals and will select its representative later this year, either via a national competition or an internal process.

Public broadcaster president and CEO Marie‑Philippe Bouchard said the participation will showcase Canadian talent on “one of the most storied music stages in the world.” Eurovision director Martin Green welcomed the new member, noting the contest’s growing international reach, while Prime Minister Mark Carney highlighted the move as part of stronger ties with Europe. Organisers reported that the 2026 contest attracted over 130 million viewers in 35 markets and more than a billion Instagram views. Canada’s historic links include Céline Dion’s 1988 win for Switzerland and other Canadian artists who have performed for other countries.

The entry will be the first new non‑European participant since Australia joined in 2015, expanding the competition’s global profile.
