Canada to debut at Eurovision Song Contest 2027

Canada has been accepted as a full member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) following a vote at the organisation’s General Assembly in Prague in late June 2026. The admission gives CBC/Radio‑Canada the right to take part in all EBU events, including the Eurovision Song Contest. Consequently, Canada will make its first appearance at Eurovision in 2027, the first new participating nation since Australia joined in 2015. The 2027 contest will be staged in Bulgaria after the country’s win in 2026. CBC/Radio‑Canada will announce its national selection process later in 2026, and the broadcaster’s chief executive Marie‑Philippe Bouchard said the move will showcase Canadian talent on a global stage. Eurovision director Martin Green welcomed the expansion, describing it as proof that the competition continues to welcome the world. Canada was already among the top three “Rest‑of‑the‑World” voting markets in the 2026 edition, reflecting strong overseas interest. The development follows a period of lower television viewership for Eurovision, partly due to boycotts by several countries, but online engagement remains high, with billions of views across social platforms.
