Canada Unveils Strategic Exports Office and Commits $2.7 B to New Rental Housing

Canada announced the creation of a Strategic Exports Office within Global Affairs Canada, led by International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu. The office will coordinate diplomatic, commercial and financial expertise to help Canadian firms secure large export opportunities in sectors such as aerospace, defence, infrastructure and energy, and will be supported by a Strategic Exports Advisory Council composed of senior executives from major Canadian companies.

In parallel, the federal government and the City of Toronto revealed a partnership to invest more than $2.7 billion in over 18 housing projects that will deliver more than 5,600 new rental homes. The plan combines $310 million for non‑market, affordable and supportive housing with $1.8 billion of low‑cost financing for market‑rate rentals, aiming to begin construction on thousands of units within the next three years.
