Canada wins rugby gold at FISU World University Championship

Ava Van Santen, a 22-year-old athlete from Aldergrove and Trinity Western University, helped lead Canada to a gold medal at the FISU World University Championship Rugby Sevens. In the final match held in Stellenbosch, South Africa, Canada defeated France with a score of 20-0.

Van Santen, playing as a wing, scored four tries during the gold-medal game. She was one of 12 athletes selected to represent Canada in the tournament. Her performance has been noted by Trinity Western University’s director of rugby, Andrew Evans, who described her selection as a “world-class achievement.”
