Canada wins women's short track relay gold in Vancouver
The Canadian women's short track speed skating relay team, composed of Courtney Sarault, Florence Brunelle, Claudia Gagnon, and Danaé Blais, secured the gold medal in the 3000m relay at the first stop of the World Short Track Speed Skating Tour in Vancouver.
During the final, the Canadian quartet moved from third place to first following a collision between the Italian and Dutch teams. The collision resulted in a disqualification for Italy, leaving South Korea to take the silver medal and the Netherlands to claim bronze.
In the men's 500m competition, Maxime Laoun earned a silver medal with a time of 40.725 seconds, finishing just behind the Netherlands' Jens van 't Wout. The bronze medal was awarded to Turkey's Furkan Akar after South Korea's Jeongmin Lee was disqualified for an infraction involving Canadian skater Steven Dubois. This event marks the return of international short track speed skating to Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum for the first time since the 2010 Winter Olympics.
