Canada woman recounts journey from ISIS bride to informant
A Canadian woman, identified only by her initial S., has shared her journey from radicalization to becoming an informant. Born in Pakistan to Somali parents and raised in Canada, S. experienced personal tragedy following the death of her brother, which led her toward increased religious devotion.
Following experiences of Islamophobia in Canada, S. enrolled in a religious boarding school in eastern Canada. There, she was influenced by a peer with ties to the Al-Shabab militant group. This path eventually led her to join the Islamic State and participate in combat in Syria before her transition into an informant role.
